Jazz Journal recently reviewing his The Lions Revisited album (his eleventh) spoke of his ‘fine voice….’ that ‘resonates with meaning’.
As a pianist his grounding in the Harlem stride element of Thelonious Monk, and his history playing with jazz legends Joe Lovano, Pharoah Sanders, Benny Golson and many others, and his legendary trio, means a true breadth of musicianship. He has performed in New York, Shanghai and all over Europe, appeared on BBC’s In Tune and Loose Ends, and has a background as a TV songwriter and Edinburgh Fringe music theatre musical director, working with artists such as comedians Harry Hill and Jeremy Hardy, and pop chanteuse Alison Moyet.
