Tuesday 19th ?REMEMBERING TONY LEVIN? A TRIBUTE TO THE DRUMMER TONY LEVIN IN AID OF THE SHROPSHIRE BLOOD TRUST FUND
Drummer Tony Levin was an icon of the UK Jazz scene, who had worked at the highest level since the mid 60’s, continuing to tour the world with the numerous bands that he was involved with until he sadly died earlier this year. He first came to prominence with the legendary saxophonist Tubby Hayes and went on to work with the likes of Hank Mobley, Joe Henderson, Gary Burton, Zoot Sims, AI Cohn, Toots Thielemanns, Kenny Wheeler, Ronnie Scott, John Taylor, Humphrey Lyttleton and many, many more. The incredible line-up for tonight’s gig, which was originally meant to feature Tony’s quartet with pianist Steve Melling, is a testament to Tony’s popularity and how highly he was regarded on the scene.
STEVE MELLING. After first hitting the scene with NYJO in the 1980’s, pianist Steve Melling has gone on to establish himself with work along side the likes of Peter King, Mornington Lockett and Clark Tracey as one of the UK’s leading modern jazz pianists.
PETER KING -alto sax
CLARK TRACEY-drums
DICK PEARCE is a wonderful, melodic, trumpet and flugel player who was featured with the Ronnie Scott quintet for many years. Considered to be one of the UK’s leading jazz trumpeters he has in the last few years established an impressive name for his own quartet. Saxophonist
ALAN SKIDMORE is something of a legend, having worked with the likes of Herbie Hancock, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler and many more.
