Fri 18th 9:00pm DENNY ILETT/PETE LONG’S R&BEBOP
Denny Ilett is a versatile guitarist/singer who has worked with the likes of US stars Lillian Boutte & PeeWee Ellis as well as members of Goldfrapp, Portishead & Mannfred Mann. Saxophonist/singer Pete Long is a renowned jazz musician, who’s CV includes work with Jools Holland, Tom Jones and Lionel Richie. Tonight these two master musicians join forces with this unique band. Over to them: “It’s the late 1940’s - the bebop revolution led by Charlie Parker is in full swing. At the same time, a proto-rock n roll known as Rhythm & Blues was developing with artists such as T-Bone Walker and Louis Jordan. Put these two together and you have R&Bebop, an exciting and innovative moment in melodic and rhythmic time”. Denny & Pete have unearthed a treasure-trove of captivating rhythms and intoxicating melodies guaranteed to be both exciting and fun!

Pianist Joe Webb has quickly become a force to be reckoned with on the UK jazz scene. He’s worked with Hailey Tuck, Rob Luft, Adrian Cox and more, but it is as a member of the Kansas Smitty’s House Band, the swinging, mainstream jazz outfit dubbed London’s ‘new swing princes’ that his profile has reached new heights, including appearing on Jamie Cullum’s Christmas album. Joe’s band this evening features the brilliant sax playing of Alec Harper and the swinging guitar of Dave Archer.

Zoe Francis started singing jazz while living in New York where she developed a love for the great, classic, songwriters from the American Songbook. Now back in the UK, Zoe’s knack for capturing the bittersweet, poignant nature of these songs brings them to life and elevates her performances to the truly exceptional. For this show, Zoe will be joined by iconic guitarist Jim Mullen (Morrissey/Mullen) and her trio as they preview songs from her next album, ‘Somewhere in the Night’.

Tonight Lauren and pianist Dan Hewson are planning what they describe as “an unforgettable evening of music, where the worlds of jazz, soul, musical theatre and pop collide in fresh, innovative ways. Expat Italian guitarist Andrea Rinciari’s list of influences include the classic innovators such as Bud Powell, Charlie Parker, and Clifford Brown, but tempered with a more contemporary approach, which gives his fluent and creative playing an interesting and exciting feel. He has performed at many of the major jazz venues in London, Paris and Italy and in May this year he will be releasing his latest album “Soho Sessions” featuring saxophonist Alex Garnett. Tonight Andrea will be appearing with his trio performing classic jazz standards in his distinctive blend of tradition and innovation.

Pianist/composer Kate Williams has gained a reputation as both a distinctive writer and performer. She has released a number of critically acclaimed albums, including “Finding Home” which won Album of the Year at the 2020 Parliamentary Jazz Awards. This evening Kate appears with bassist Oli Hayhurst and drummer Sophie Alloway performing tunes by Mulgrew Miller and Bill Evans, as well as some new arrangements and great originals by Kate herself.

Thu 24th 8:00pm TIM WHITEHEAD
Saxophonist Tim Whitehead is renowned throughout the UK, Europe and USA as a remarkable performer/composer. In the 70’s he toured with Ian Carr’s “Nucleus”, winning the Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award. In the 80’s he was a member of the groundbreaking band Loose Tubes, in the 90’s he won the Andrew Milne Award for Jazz and in the 00’s was the first ever musician to be made Artist in Residence at Tate Britain. His muscular, fluent and highly melodic playing commands considerable respect throughout the scene. And watch out for the superb pianist David Gordon, also featured this evening.

Tonight we present an evening celebrating the joyous, rhythmic, delights of classic Brazilian MPB with the 606 Club’s outstanding Brazilian band “Samara”. Featuring the brilliant Brazilian vocalist Carolina Lelis alongside the powerful piano of Neil Angilley and the swinging flute of our “Gov’nor” Steve Rubie the band take you on a road trip around Brazil, with music from the South, the North, the North East and beyond. Hear the stories behind some of Brazil’s classic songs and join the band as they perform an infectious blend of Brazilian Samba, Baião, jazz & Latin while everyone has a great time!

Brandon Allen is an expat Australian saxophonist who has made quite an impression on the scene since taking up residence in London. His wonderfully fluent and incisive sax playing has been heard in prestigious venues all over Europe and at numerous festivals around the world, including Womad, Reading Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, The Vittoria and Terrassa Jazz Festivals in Spain, Manly Jazz Festival in Australia and the London Jazz Festival. In London alone he has performed with the likes of Eric Clapton, Mica Paris, Jools Holland, BBC Big Band, Kyle Eastwood and Omar, which gives you an idea of just how good he is! The focus of the show this evening will be a tribute to the remarkable Sonny Rollins. Frequently referred to as a ‘saxophone colossus’, Sonny received dozens of awards (including a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement), won multiple Downbeat polls and New York City even named 13 November 1995 ‘Sonny Rollins Day’. Brandon will be joined by pianist Sean Fyfe, bassist Simon Reed and drummer Matt Home as they play these modern jazz classics.

A fine singer and an excellent jazz pianist Eriko has established an enviable reputation on the UK jazz scene, as well as major concert halls in Hong Kong and Korea. With four albums to her name, the latest featuring the iconic US sax legend Scott Hamilton, her intimate programme of jazz standards and bossa novas is the perfect way to spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon. Kat Eaton is a soul/jazz singer and songwriter of talent, breadth and genuine artistry. Originally discovered on BBC Introducing, Kat’s music earned her strong support from the late Terry Wogan & Vanessa Feltz on BBC Radio 2. Highly experienced she has toured Europe and the UK extensively, supporting artists such as Jools Holland, The Teskey Brothers, Marc Broussard and Mamas Gun, selling out multiple headline shows in London and co-writing with the likes of Ruby Turner. After the global success of her debut album “Talk to Me”, Kat has just released her heavily anticipated second album, “Honestly”. Armed with fresh original material, her own arrangements of songs by Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Ray Charles and Nina Simone and a band, Nick Atkinson-guitar, Joe Glossop-piano, Dan Drury-bass & Ally McDougal-drums that have played with the likes of Tom Jones, Van Morrison, Amy Winehouse and Gregory Porter, Kat just gets better and better.

A hugely impressive drummer with an international profile Jeremy Stacey includes work with the likes of Tom Jones, Sheryl Crow and Noel Gallagher on a vast CV and was one of the featured drummers with the iconic band King Crimson. Paul Stacey is a renowned and versatile guitarist who includes work with the likes of jazz vocalist Claire Martin, Oasis and Noel Gallagher as well as the Black Crowes and Chris Robinson. Tonight we present their 14-piece tribute to the seminal US band Steely Dan featuring the wonderful singer Andy Caine (Tommy Blaize) alongside singers Louise Clare Marshall (Jools Holland), Sumudu (Van Morrison) and Bryan Chambers, two brilliant keyboard players, a great rhythm section and a fantastic 4-piece horn section. A rare outing for this band and an absolute “must see”.
