Tue 1st         8:00pm         PETER BERNSTEIN/JIM MULLEN
A New York native, Peter Bernstein is widely regarded as one of the finest exponents of modern jazz guitar alive today. Lauded by guitar genius Jim Hall as “...the most impressive guitarist I’ve heard” the 90’s and 2000’s saw him working with a who’s who of International Jazz stars, including Diana Krall, Joe Lovano and Sonny Rollins, while the New York Times described his long-standing trio with Larry Goldings & Bill Stewart as “the best organ trio of the last decade”. A truly innovative and complete musician, it is with enormous pleasure that we welcome this giant of the jazz guitar back to the Club. And watch out for Peter’s Special Guest, the equally iconic UK guitarist Jim Mullen.

Thu 3rd       8:00pm         BALÁZS HORVÁTH
A phenomenally talented young Hungarian pianist, Balázs Horváth won the prestigious Junior Prima Award in 2022. Coming from a dynasty of great Roma musicians, Balázs first learned the cimbalom (a traditional instrument resembling a hammer dulcimer) at the age of 5, then progressed to the piano, studying both jazz and classical. Now attending the world-famous Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, he was a finalist at the Bob Ravenscourt International Jazz Piano Competition where out hundreds of entrants only six made it to the finals. And, he also received a special award as a member of the Salamon Tűzkő Quintet, and as a sideman played with the singer Noemi Nagy at the MÜPA Jazz Showcase. Balázs’ first album, “Reassurance”, was released this year and showcases his graceful, melodic approach, whether playing his own compositions or a favourite standard. He will be joined on the stand by the 2017 Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition winner, saxophonist Matt Anderson, along with fellow Dankworth prize recipient & BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist bassist Misha Mullov-Abbado & drummer Sophie Alloway (described as “the goddess of groove” by Jazz FM).

Sun 6th       1:30pm         ELAINE DELMAR/BARRY GREEN
It’s fair to say that after 60 years in the business Elaine Delmar is very much Jazz “Royalty”. From work at 16 with her father, the famous Leslie “Jiver” Hutchinson, through leading roles in stage musicals such as ‘Bubbling Brown Sugar’ in London and ‘Kern Goes to Hollywood’ on Broadway to a successful recording career that started in the 1960’s and continues to this day, Elaine has established herself as an international artist of talent, poise and grace. She has appeared in concert with the likes of Andy Williams, Michel Legrand and the London Symphony Orchestra (Royal Albert Hall) and it is a testament to the enormous respect with which she is held that in 2013 she received the APPJAG Special Parliamentary Jazz Award in recognition of her inestimable contribution to the UK jazz scene. Appearing this afternoon as a duo with the wonderful Barry Green-piano (Ian Shaw, Bobby Watson, Charles McPherson), Elaine will be performing music from her latest album “Speak Low” (which just received five stars from BBC Music Magazine) along with a programme of swinging American Songbook standards.

8:00pm         SIMON PEARSON MEMORIAL CONCERT
This show celebrates a remarkable musician beloved by so many who knew him, drummer Simon Pearson, who passed away unexpectedly in 2023 at only 54 years of age. Simon was a part of London’s musical firmament working across an eclectic variety of styles for decades, building a reputation not just as an outstanding player of taste and skill, but as a lovely man who was a pleasure to be around. Simon performed at the 606 often with pianist John Crawford. Indeed, John described Simon as having “astonishing technique”, saying his playing was such that “he was unique- every groove was played with a beautiful, understated subtlety which made him so in demand”. Along with John and his band featuring guitarist Guille Hill, bassist Alec Dankworth & vocalist Linley Weir, the programme will also include performances by other musicians Simon collaborated with through his career: Terry de Castro/Astrid Williamson (Goya Dress), guitarist Deirdre Cartwright with bassist Alison Rayner, trumpet/flugel player Loz Speyor, bassist Dave Jones & more. This evening will be an outpouring of affection in Simon’s honour - gone much, much too soon.

Mon 7th       8:00pm         DENNY ILETT
Denny Ilett is a versatile guitarist (and singer) who spent ‘many happy years’ playing at the 606 with Lillian Boutte, the vocalist and ‘New Orleans Musical Ambassador’ who was beloved at the Club. Now, Denny &fellow band members Andy Crowdy (bass) and Daisy Palmer (drums) along with the award-winning pianist Will Barry will perform an eclectic night of music in honour of their old boss! As well as his manifest skills as a jazz & blues musician, Denny embraces music in all forms, working with PeeWee Ellis and members of Goldfrapp, Portishead & Mannfred Mann to name just a few. He also leads the 16-piece Electric Lady Big Band (dedicated to the music of Jimi Hendrix) and has a soft spot for Frank Sinatra & Nat ‘King’ Cole. With this in mind, the programme this evening will include everything from blues, swing and funk mixed together with traditional jazz, Great American Songbook classics and a little smattering of bebop.

He returned to the US in the early 90s to become one of the world’s leading laser eye surgeons (he’s now Professor Reinstein). But when he returned to London, it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again and the rest, as they say, is history-Dan & his quartet have performed here for the last 20 years and still going!
