An appeal from the Green Note, Camden Town, London.

Thursday, March 19, 2020

The Green Note is among the London venues that have been forced to close due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Its proprietors have appealed to music lovers to make donations to keep help the venue going.

Immy & Risa, proprietors of the Green Note have issued the following statement;

COVID-19 Update - A call for support!

To all our Green Note followers,

We were of course hoping to be able to email you as usual with exciting news about all our upcoming shows, but as you all know, things have taken an unprecedented turn due to the coronavirus outbreak and its knock on effects…

We have taken the heart-breaking decision to cancel or reschedule all our shows over the coming weeks, and close the doors of Green Note until further notice.

The safety of our artists, audience members and staff is our priority, and this felt like the only responsible course of action we could take. If you have booked a ticket for a show, you will be contacted by email with details of the rescheduled date or if the show is cancelled, you will automatically be refunded.

As a small, independent venue, this will have a huge impact on many levels and as you can imagine, means we are in for a very tough time: our lovely, loyal staff’s source of income is under threat, musicians have been left in the devastating position of having gigs cancelled… and finally, our beloved venue, which relies on all of your support (buying tickets, coming to see shows, buying food and drinks at the bar) is standing empty. Without our usual sources of income, Green Note is under critical threat and if any of you are in a position to help, we would be very grateful.

There is a growing online movement to support grassroots venues suggesting that people who have a ticket for a cancelled show, can opt not to receive a refund, but instead choose to use this as a donation towards helping the venue through this difficult time. However, the ticket provider we use processes refunds automatically, so do not offer us this option.

Nevertheless, if you would like to make a donation to show your support, you CAN do so by clicking the link here.

Every little helps, and we will use these donations towards retaining our hard-working, dedicated team and helping the venue come through this difficult period. We would be so grateful for any support you can offer.

This is obviously an extremely challenging time for musicians as well, who overnight have lost a large part of their livelihoods. We encourage you to support musicians directly through their own websites by purchasing their music and merchandise.

Currently we’re just firefighting, picking up the pieces and getting on top of the admin for all the cancelled and rescheduled gigs. However, once things have settled somewhat, we will be changing our focus and hope to come up with creative ideas and ways to continue working with and supporting our musicians during this period of closure.

We are DETERMINED to survive this and will be doing our best to get our shows back on track as soon as possible! This too shall pass…. We know we have a loyal community of supporters and music fans out there, and are very much hoping to be back with our usual exciting and eclectic programme of music sooner rather than later!

Hope you all stay healthy and stay safe…

Lots of love,

Immy & Risa xx
