Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton to host jazz programme from Autumn 2013 commencing with Zoe Rahman.

Sunday, March 24, 2013

Alison Vermee, formerly of The Edge Arts Centre in Much Wenlock and now at the Arena Theatre in Wolverhampton is formulating plans for an autumn jazz programme at her new employers.Details attached.

Alison, the Arena’s Thatre Development Officer, has supplied us with the following information regarding the Arena’s new jazz programme;

“I have put together a jazz group in Wolverhampton - lots of old Edge regulars who live locally - to steer the Arena’s jazz programme for the autumn. Zoe Rahman is going to be a patron, and commence the season and Tord Gustavsen will be with us in 2014. I had a wonderful dinner with Dave Holland this week, courtesy of Tony Dudley-Evans who is himself continuing to be very supportive of jazz developments in the Midlands. As Dave was born in Wolverhampton, he is considering being a patron too. I showed him a programme I had saved from the first time I saw him play - with the Sam Rivers Trio at the Birmingham and Midland Institute in 1981. He was delighted to see the programme and reminisced about Sam. What a thrill?”

Ian says;

I’m delighted to hear the news that Alison’s plans to commence a jazz programme at the Arena Theatre are up and running. The venue will be a very welcome addition to the Midlands jazz circuit. It’s great that such prestigious musicians as Zoe Rahman and possibly Dave Holland are willing to become involved and that Zoe and Tord Gustavsen will be coming to play. All at The Jazzmann wish Alison all the very best with her new venture.
