AZHAAR SAFFAR QUARTET
Azhaar Saffar violinist and vocalist made her name for singing and writing with well-known Brazilian Jazz group Sirius B. Now Azhaar is exploring jazz roots with a top line up. In 2007 Azhaar developed the show Footprints, a collaboration of musicians, dancers and filmmakers. Having studied at the Royal Northern in Manchester years ago, she quickly left the classical world to explore the many other musical genres of this versatile instrument, finally gravitating to jazz. She also studied Arabic music in Egypt, travelled Europe playing jazz, and absorbed Latin music during journeys in South America, going beyond the Grappelli swing that has for so long defined the role of jazz violin. She’s more influenced by Charlie Parker and post bop players like Wayne Shorter and Freddie Hubbard. So with a modern jazz repertoire of originals and standards she fronts this outfit as both singer and violinist.
Admission @ The Door £5-00
