Bassist Ben Bastin will be cycling from London to Brighton on Sunday July 22nd to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Details attached. Please donate if you can.
Here’s what Ben has to say;
Charity Bike Ride, bass player rides a bike!!!!
Hello All
Apologies for sending this big email to everyone, but I hope you will see the reason. I hope I’ve not sent this to anyone twice or anything. Please accept my apologies up front for that.
This coming Sunday I will be cycling to Brighton in aid of Pancreatic Cancer Research. I lost a very close friend to this terrible disease at the end of last year and it was harrowing to say the least, she died just 2 months after her diagnosis.
Pancreatic Cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death, causing five percent of all cancer deaths each year. It also has the lowest survival rate of all cancers with just 3% of those diagnosed surviving for five years. Finally, it is the only cancer that has seen no improvement in five year survival rates over the last 40 years.
The Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund is working on many research programmes in an attempt to improve these grim statistics.
Please follow the link http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/pcrfcycle and donate anything you can afford, or share it on your facebook page or twitter, anything you can do to help us would be really appreciated.
Now bass players are not the best known for their cycling prowess, and I doubt I will be completing the trip in a Tour De France winning time. So please think of us on Sunday trying to reach our goal and help us reach it by donating.
Cancer is a terrible thing which i’m sure most us have experienced in one way or another. Please take the time to try and help some of these people.
Thanks a lot once again here is the link http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/pcrfcycle

Ian says;
Please support Ben if you can. This event is particularly timely following the recent death of former Deep Purple organist Jon Lord from pancreatic cancer.
On a personal note I lost my mother to the same disease in 2009 so Ben certainly has my support.
Good luck Ben, hope all goes well for you on Sunday and that you are able to raise a good sum for a very worthy cause.

Saw Ben play a great set with Sarah Gillespie, Enzo Zirilli and Kit Downes last weekend at Brecon Jazz Festival. Ben told me that he and his friends had completed the ride successfully and to date have raised nearly £4,000 for their chosen charity. Well done guys, much respect.
