MINGUS MUSIC
DUBREK
Fri. April. 11th
Charles Mingus composed some of the greatest jazz ever written. Most bands avoid playing this great music for fear of sounding both too much like and not enough like Mingus. But since last October twelve jazz musicians from Derby have been working with their mentor Matt Ratcliffe on some of the wonderful tunes from three of his classic albums; MINGUS AH UM, BLUES & ROOTS and OH YEAH!. Tonight they celebrate the music they’ve learned together.
MYSTERIOUS TRAVELLERS
MUSEUM of MAKING
FRIDAY APRIL 18th
A celebration of the glorious and uplifting music of Weather Report.
Mysterious Travellers was formed by Jazz fusion drummer George Grignon (SoulDeep and Kallugah) to celebrate the music of Weather Report following the passing of founder member Wayne Shorter in 2023. Fretless electric bassist Dave Sturt (GONG and The Steve Hillage band) was first call in addition to rising keyboard star Robert Dimbleby. The incredibly talented saxophonist Jack Williams followed and the band is rounded out by master percussionist Rich Kensington. Mysterious Travellers will be performing pieces drawn from the entirety of Weather Report’s glorious heritage of electric jazz.
