Saxophonist Derek Nash will preview his range of limited edition "Signature" saxophones at a special event on 9th November 2009 at Peppino's Restaurant and Bar, Bournemouth

An evening with Derek Nash and opportunity to preview his limited edition range of ?Signature’ saxophones

Bournemouth 9th November 2009. International recording artist and Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues band member Derek Nash exclusively previews his own range of saxophones to an intimate audience of local jazz bands and music students.

Derek Nash is widely recognised as a vibrant, charismatic and accomplished performer. He runs the 8 piece all star Sax ensemble ?Sax Appeal?, winners of the BT British Jazz Awards and is a member of Jazz funk Band ?Protect the Beat? who have headlined at the Brecon Jazz Festival for the last 3 years.

Tonight (9th November) he launches his range of ?Signature’ saxophones designed in collaboration with Steve Goodson in New Orleans.
This exciting range is exclusive to Bournemouth based music shop, The Music Factory who are hosting a very special and intimate evening with Derek Nash. The night will offer the opportunity to listen to Derek perform tracks off ?Snapshot’ his newly launched album and performed on this evening on his own Signature range of alto and tenor saxophones.
Derek Nash will also open the room to questions as a ?masterclass’ session and talk through the features that were essential to him in designing his own range of saxophone.

For the advancing student or weekend professional, the?Derek Nash Limited Edition Signature?saxophone offers a package of unique features found on no other instrument in its price range: kangaroo leather pads, exclusive speaker key, double arms on the bell keys, extensive hand cut engraving on the bell, bow, body tube and neck, keywork all the way up to high G, and two different necks for two entirely different sounds.

Snapshot, Derek Nash’s second solo album, features nine diverse tunes: a Grover Washington Jnr and a Pat Metheny, each given the acoustic treatment; an obscure Ellington number, some straight-ahead swing, a couple of ballads and a Gerry Mulligan with counterpoint, courtesy of a Dave Grusin arrangement Derek has loved for years.

There are only 10 of each model available and retail at £1099 (Alto) and £1199 (Tenor)

The indefatigable Nash seems to eat, sleep and breathe jazz. By day he runs his Clowns Pocket Studio from where he has produced and engineered a prodigious number of records, all to the same consistently high technical standards. He helps to run the Jazzizit record label with singer Trudy Kerr, and by night he’s out gigging all over the country with membership of Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra one of his most high profile engagements

As a member of Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, Derek has performed in front of over 65,000 people at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, and to over 100,000 at Glastonbury. He has appeared live and on TV with many high profile performers including Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Lulu, Kylie Minogue, Tom Jones, Will Young, David Sanborn and Mavis Staples. As a solo artist, Derek has played with Dave Grusin, Nelson Rangell, Spike Robinson, and Branford Marsalis, plus UK jazz names such as Jamie Cullum, Mornington Lockett, Dave O’Higgins, Alan Barnes, Ray Gelato, Humphrey Lyttelton, Trudy Kerr and many more. He has also performed and recorded with Ben Waters’ Boogie Band, The Soul Survivors and Peter Green. As a recording engineer, he was awarded a gold disc for his work on Jamie Cullum’s Pointless Nostalgic, and has recorded for Bobby Wellins, Dave O’Higgins, Martin Drew, Geoff Gascoyne, Georgie Fame, Bob Dorough, and George Melly, amongst others.
