We have received details of the Guildford Jazz programme for April 2025. Performers include Vimala Rowe, John Etheridge, Rod Youngs, Denys Baptise, Terence Collie, Transatlantic Hot Club.

Wednesday 2 April: Vimala Rowe with John Etheridge “Blue Spirits” Trio
Vimala is a sensational singer who has mesmerised audiences since she emerged a few years ago and has the same wide ranging skills and tastes as John Etheridge.
They are ideal partners, alike in their search for musical adventure and authenticity. John Etheridge is one of a handful of players who can claim to have helped shape
the character of modern jazz guitar. He has been described by Pat Metheny as “one of the best guitarists in the world”, and The Blue Spirits Trio came about through
John’s love of electric guitar and organ combined.
With Pete Whittaker on organ, George Double on drums. and Marianne Windham on bass.

MOBO nominated musician Rod Youngs brings his quartet to Guildford to celebrate the music of the iconic Blue Note Record label. Rod Youngs has established himself
as one of the most expressive and versatile drummers on the contemporary music scene. For over two decades his approach to music has covered a wide spectrum of
genres while remaining firmly rooted in the jazz tradition. Rod is joined by the incomparable Denys Baptiste, a legend of British jazz and one of the most sought- after saxophonists in the country. With guitarist Artie Zaitz and bassist Larry Bartley.

Monday 14 April: Lunchtime jazz: The Terence Collie piano trio
The first in a new series of monthly lunchtime trio jazz concerts at Guildford Institute in the heart of Guildford in the historic Assembly Room at the Institute which has a
grand piano. Lunch is available from 12 to 2pm, and the performance is a single one- hour set from 2 to 3pm. This opening concert features the pianist and composer
Terence Collie with Sophie Alloway on drums and Marianne Windham on bass. With sold-out shows in 2024 at prestigious venues like the 606 Club and Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, Terence Collie captivates audiences with his virtuosity and innovative compositions. “Goddess of groove” Sophie Alloway has played drums for all the finalists in the BBC Young Jazz Musician 2024

Thursday 24 April: Transatlantic Hot Club
The Transatlantic Hot Club was formed by Ben Creighton Griffiths (Harp) and Adrien Chevalier (Violin) in 2013 when they met whilst both performing at a harp festival on the French Caribbean islands. The following year they began an annual tradition of performing in Cardiff and have expanded this into a full tour. The Hot Club has performed extensively in the UK, the USA, France and Corsica.
With Ben Creighton Griffiths – harp, Adrien Chevalier - violin/vocals, Jeremy Lohier - accordion/vocals and Ashley John Long – bass.
