Gwilym Simcock to be patron of The Edge Arts Centre Piano Appeal.

Thursday, December 01, 2011

The Edge Arts Centre in Much Wenlock has launched an appeal fund for the purchase of a new grand piano with Gwilym Simcock as its patron. Please help if you can. Further details attached.

Alison Vermee, manager and artistic director of The Edge has sent us the following by email;

The Edge Arts Centre is launching an appeal to raise funds to purchase a new grand piano for use at Edge events, school events and community events. We hope to raise in the region of £30,000. For the past eight years, we have used the one hundred year-old Bechstein grand that was bequeathed to William Brookes School decades ago. This has done us proud over the years, but is no longer of a high enough standard for professional use.

Our goal is to purchase a Yamaha C7 grand piano, and are delighted that pianist Gwilym Simcock has agreed to be the patron of the appeal.

We have secured funds already from a Shropshire Council fund, and from Much Wenlock Festival. A raffle at the performance by Acoustic Triangle was a success and we will be having another this Saturday when Gilad Atzmon and the Orient House Ensemble perform. Donations are already coming in, and we are most grateful to those of you who have already shown support.

Sponsored Walk - Sunday 4th December

On Sunday 4th December, a number of Edge staff and friends are taking part in a sponsored walk. We will walk along Wenlock Edge for 12 miles - shorter than we’d like due to limited daylight hours, but a challenge nonetheless! We’d love it if you’d like to join us and fund-raise for yourself, or you can pledge support for us by email. We will be meeting in front of The Edge at 9.30 a.m.

Please support us in this appeal in whatever way you can - a new piano for The Edge is badly needed and will make a big difference to us and to all our partners in the school and local community.

Many thanks

Ian says;

Please support this appeal if you can. The Edge is one of my favourite venues and is arguably one of the best in the whole country with its adventurous programming policy and superb acoustics. I have seen and reviewed many truly memorable performances here.
Alison and her team are doing a great job, please help them to achieve their goal.
