Welcome to Jazz West Midlands Digital Content - Paul Clarvis Trio
Paul Clarvis Trio - Live
A special live recording by a fantastic trio, favourites of jazz fans across the region. This long set put together by Paul, is a selection of great tunes to bring pleasure during this lockdown. Born in Enfield, and famous for the Enfield Sound, Paul was the late Leonard Bernstein’s preferred percussionist in London and featured as a soloist on the last night of the Proms in 1996 in a concerto for saxophone and drum kit by Sir Harrison Birtwhistle. In 1998 he was chairman of the Percussion judges for the BBC Young Musician of the Year and together with his partner Sonia Slaney he started Villagelife Records. Paul also helped Rick Smith with the drum arrangement for theLondon Olympics opening, and assisted in the training of the ceremony’s 1000 drummers. After studying music at Oxford University, and jazz at the Guildhall in London, Liam Noble started to build a reputation of note playing with Stan Sulzmann, Anita Wardell, John Stevens and Harry Beckett. His first CD, a solo entitled “Close Your Eyes” was released in 1994, and contained a mix of standards, originals and improvisations. This mixture of approaches has characterised his music ever since. Liam holds posts as Lecturer in Jazz at Birmingham Conservatoire and Trinity College of Music. He has published 4 volumes of transcriptions of the Bill Evans Trio, and a book of original compositions “Jazz Piano; An In Depth Look at the Styles of the Masters”, both published by Hal Leonard. Cathy Jordan (born in Scramogue, County Roscommon in 1972) is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bodhran, bones and bouzouki. She has been the lead vocalist for the traditional Irish music band Dervishsince 1991, and is a solo performer as well. Jordan is also member of another group called The Unwanted. Her first solo album, entitled “All the Way Home”, was released in January 2012.

The musicians will be paid for their content, so anyone wishing to contribute can do so by sending a donation over to Jazz West Midlands - details available by clicking on the donations button below..
PLANNED PROGRAMME
Over the next few weeks, and maybe months, we will be commissioning jazz musicians to record just for Jazz West Midlands Promoters a short set of tunes, mixing original and standard tunes. The gigs will be featured on our website just as a normal gig. Except the video content will be on the gig page itself.
Please support the musicians and West Midlands Jazz Promoters in these trying times.
