Le QuecumBar has closed.

Le QuecumBar, London's home of gypsy jazz, has been forced to close its doors. Statement attached.

Sylvia Rushbrooke of Le QuecumBar writes;

Le QuecumBar is Closed

It is with a heavy heart that we are to announce, after 19 years of bringing Gypsy Swing to Battersea, that Le Quecumbar is no more.  It is the end of an era for all of us, and we are deeply saddened to have to make this announcement.

As some of you may already know, during the lockdown the building obtained a new landlord who, as if the lockdown wasn’t hard enough on businesses and music venues, decided to double our rent and refused to renew the lease, meaning that Le Quecumbar had no option but to close its doors for the final time a few weeks ago.

We apologise to any of you who may have wished to visit the venue in the last few weeks only to find it had been unceremoniously closed, but due to the legal complications, we needed to keep this news to ourselves whilst we organised and finalised everything in preparation to leave the premises.

We would like to express our thanks and eternal gratitude to every single person who supported the venue over the years, especially the excellent musicians who performed here and our dedicated patrons from across the world.

Because of all of you, Le Quecumbar became an iconic and unique London venue for Gypsy Jazz, its players and its lovers.

But all good things must come to an end, and may the spirit of Le Que remain in our hearts.

Vive le Jazz Manouche!

Merci à tous et à bientot…

Ian adds;

Sadly I never got the chance to visit Le QuecumBar but it is always sad when a music venue is forced to close its doors, particularly one that The Jazzmann has been happy to support in a small way over the years via news stories, gig listings etc. I wish everyone associated with Le QuecumBar all the best for the future.
