NEIL YATES WINS CREATIVE WALES AWARD 2012
Edition Records are proud to announce that Neil Yates has won a Creative Wales Award 2012. The awards provide artists with time to experiment, innovate, and take forward their work. They also aim to develop excellence by offering a period of research and development to some of Wales’ most interesting artists.
Multi-instrumentalist composer, arranger and educator Neil Yates already has forged a strong reputation as a gifted and hard working musician. He released Five Countries on Edition Records in 2011. The album features set of compositions that cross geographical and musical boundaries with consummate ease and confidence. Now, with the aid of this award he plans to build on his already impressive musical career.
Only 22 professional artists from across the arts received over £380,000 worth of Creative Wales Awards from Arts Council of Wales at a reception held at Galeri, Caernarfon on 22 March 2012. Supported by Arts Council of Wales and Lottery funding. Neil Yates received £20,000 to take time out to broaden his artistic potential and improve his existing skills through a series of intensive, in-depth mentorships with respected professionals in the five diverse areas of artistic expression that he currently employs?
? traditional music of Britain and Ireland (mentorship programme in Ireland)
? American style jazz (mentorship programme in New York)
? visual imagery
? narrative storytelling/prose
? orchestration (mentorship program in Zurich)
The aim is to gain a more thorough understanding in each area and to investigate their similarities in both execution and intention. This will mean Yates can produce a more fluid and unified artistic output and will enable him to improve and build on his current techniques and musicality.
