The new Blam! Collective launches tonight with a gig at the Ort Cafe in Birmingham. This new musician led collective will promote jazz and improvised music at various venues around the city.
Ian says;
Among the founders of Blam! is bassist and composer Chris Mapp, joint organiser (with Percy Pursglove) of the city’s Harmonic Festival. Thanks to Chris for sending me details of this exciting new venture.
Blam! will promote gigs at four city venues, The Ort Cafe in Balsall Heath, The Cross in Moseley and the The Spotted Dog and The Lamp Tavern both in Digbeth. Events at The Lamp will be a continuation of the established Fizzle strand of improvised gigs.
The new collective launches tonight (8th June 2012) at The Ort Cafe.

About Blam!
Blam is a cooperative group of the most active of Birmingham’s younger generation of jazz musicians and is dedicated to advancing jazz and improvised music in the city. The 10 members of Blam were all previously involved in the now defunct Cobweb Collective, and are now launching this new group to further develop the creative scene in their home city.
As individual musicians, the members of Blam are all prominently involved in the performance of jazz locally, nationally and internationally and as a collective believe in the importance of a thriving music scene in their home city. Hosting sessions in 4 seperate venues and promoting up to (and sometimes more than) 10 gigs a month, Blam cover the whole spectrum of jazz, from mainstream swing to free jazz. Blam provides audiences and musicians with regular opportunities to listen to and interact with a diverse array of artists from Birmingham and beyond.
Blam isn’t only about promoting music, but also about creating music. There are currently plans to start a large ensemble and run composers sessions, as well as making some of the great music created in Birmingham available to everyone.
We are keen to collaborate with other musicians and collectives, so get in touch if you want to know more: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
