Peter Slavid - Favourite albums from 2022.

Friday, December 23, 2022

Broadcaster & journalist Peter Slavid has forwarded details of his twenty favourite European jazz albums of 2022, as featured on his internationally transmitted 'European Jazz Hour' radio show.

Peter Slavid writes;

My 20 favourite albums from 2022

Now available at https://www.mixcloud.com/ukjazz/my-20-personal-favourite-albums-of-2022/

This is my final email of 2022 and it covers an extended show (originally two radio shows) which feature 20 of my personal favourite albums of the year (and if there had been time it could easily have been 40). They aren’t in order of preference, just broadcast as two shows, then repeated on the next two weeks, before I get back to playing new releases in mid-January.

One or two of my selections have appeared on other people’s lists, but the majority are artists that nobody has heard of – in many cases artists that I’ve never heard of – which is exactly how I like it, and why I do this.

I’d like to remind those of you from labels and my friends in PR that I normally try to record my show at least 2 or 3 weeks ahead, so the earlier you can send me music, the better chance you have of it being played on the release date (not before, naturally). Also, I very rarely play singles, and if I do – I don’t then play another track from the album.

Over the year I have played (and listened to) 454 albums, and received another 100 that I didn’t play. This year 20% came from UK (down from 30% last year) and there was an increase in albums from a lot of smaller countries, as well as increases from France, Germany and Italy. And I know that there are lots of great albums that I haven’t been sent.

This year the albums came from 190 different labels, which I think is a good sign of a vibrant scene

I have listed the tracks played in alphabetical order of the artist so that nobody is confused into thinking I’m suggesting any one is better than the others (I’ve also attached a separate document containing the playlist in the order in which they are played on the shows. )

I hope you all have a happy Xmas and a very happy 2023 – and keep the music coming!

Peter
