Tuesday, April 21, 2020
Clarinettist and composer Samantha Wright has recorded the music for her debut album. She has launched a Kickstarter campaign to cover release costs with a view to an Autumn 2020 release.
Samantha Wright writes;
Last March I recorded my debut album with my quartet in Hamburg. We’re really happy with the takes, and excited to release it hopefully by Autumn 2020.
I’ve created a Kickstarter campaign to try and raise some money to cover some of the costs, and also offer people the opportunity to pre-order the album, in addition to other “rewards”.
PRESS RELEASE;
“HOW ABOUT NOW?”
The Debut album from Samantha Wright
Samantha Wright is a jazz clarinettist from Manchester UK, and has been living in Hamburg since 2017. She is sincerely devoted to researching the clarinet’s
presence throughout the historic timeline of jazz, as well as encouraging and helping other musicians learn more about this music. In 2019 she founded her internationally popular Jazz Clarinet Transcription blog, an educational resource that is used by musicians (beginners to professional) worldwide. (https://samanthawright.co.uk/blog)
“I want to make jazz music and education as accessible as possible.”
Following the completion of her Master studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Wright continues to be present in the university, now officially as the
lecturer for Jazz Clarinet.
In March 2020, Samantha’s quartet (with Sophia Oster on piano, Tilman Oberbeck on bass and Wolff Reichert on drums) entered the studio to record their very first
album together. Following 3 days of intense music making, “How About Now?” was born! An album consisting of 10 tracks, with 6 composed by Samantha, 3 by Tilman
and 1 arranged by Sophia. The sound engineer for the session was the wonderful Oliver Bergner, who has recorded, mixed and mastered for NDR Bigband, Nils
Wogram, Pablo Held and Joachim Kühn, amongst many others.
To be able to release her debut album, Samantha has created a Kickstarter campaign, where it’s possible to donate in a number of ways, by:
- Pre-ordering the album digitally or as a physical CD (delivered internationally)
- all of the above, PLUS lead sheets of all of the songs
- all of the above, PLUS transcriptions of all of the clarinet solos
- Buying a clarinet lesson with Samantha Wright
- Booking the quartet (or smaller duo format) for an event or concert
....and much more can be found on the kickstarter campaign page.
