With 2025 fully underway, live music producers Serious already have a full calendar of vital artistic and cultural events coming up in London and beyond.
Madeleine Peyroux returns to the UK in February for two sold-out events at Saffron Hall in Saffron Walden on 22 February and London’s Cadogan Hall on 23 February following her captivating ninth album, Let’s Walk, which came out earlier this year to critical acclaim. Due to the demand, an additional Madeleine Peyroux London show at Cadogan Hall is announced for 15 July.
German jazz group Fazer are performing their first ever London show at The Cockpit on 24 February, expect their singular take on indie, jazz and psychedelic rock delivered with elegance, humour and depth.
Bill Laurance and Michael League once again join forces as a duo following their sold out EFG London Jazz Festival performance in 2023. They are embarking on a UK tour as they celebrate the release of their second album, Keeping Company. In March they perform at St George’s in Bristol on the 2nd, at Union Chapel in London on the 3rd and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester on the 4th. Support for these shows comes from one of the most electrifying forces in contemporary British jazz; Rosie Frater-Taylor.
Former Wild Beasts star Tom Fleming, returned earlier this year with his One True Pairing project and is performing a UK tour in support of new album Endless Rain which came out via Domino. Described by The Guardian as “heavy, hymnal folk”, he is heading out on the road in March, taking in Alphabet in Brighton on the 14th, the Cube Cinema in Bristol on the 15th and Band on the Wall in Manchester on the 16th.
Known for their richly orchestrated, darkly beautiful music, Tindersticks have carved a niche for themselves since their inception in the early 1990s. They returned with their new album Soft Tissue earlier this year, which earned itself a four star review from The Guardian: “the album’s sound … is abundant with lovely, subtle details.” They headline London’s Royal Albert Hall with a special performance including live strings on 17 March. Opening the night night is Irish folk singer Oisin Leech whose soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics will set the stage perfectly for one of the UK’s most vital bands.
Following her spellbinding performance at the Proms and a sold-out show at Cadogan Hall earlier this year, sensational singer Lizz Wright will bring her soaring jazz, gospel, blues and folk infused sound to the Barbican on 18 March. Canadian singer-songwriter and The Voice UK star STORRY will open the show with her lyrical songs and impressive voice, ahead of her headline shows in April.
After a 7 year hiatus, the Neil Cowley Trio returned with a new album last year and are heading out on a UK tour this Spring. Following their sold-out EFG London Jazz Festival show in 2024, they present music from their outstanding new album, Entity, alongside some fan-favourite Cowley classics at venues across the UK from 22 April to 3 May.
After selling out one Jazz Cafe and two EartH shows in 2024, Tony Ann returns for his biggest London show to date as he takes over the Barbican Hall. This will be followed with shows at RNCM Concert Hall, Manchester and St George’s, Bristol. Ann is a virtuoso solo pianist who seamlessly blends contemporary and classical styles. As a harmony connoisseur, he pushes the limits of neoclassical and popular music, crafting emotionally rich compositions.
Frontman Ilhan Ersahin is one of those rare moguls of the New York City underground scene via his club and record label, Nublu, and he’s spread his New York energy throughout the world whose jazz-rock fusion reaches the Jazz Cafe in London on 12 May.
Enji’s life has been a tapestry woven with threads from diverse cultures. Born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, she was immersed in the rich traditions of Mongolian folk music from a young age. As she continues to navigate her path between tradition and innovation, Enji stands as a testament to the enriching experience of living between worlds and the art that emerges from embracing a multifaceted identity. She performs at Stone Nest in London on 14 May in support of her new album Sonor which was announced recently and arrives on 2 May.
Call it prairie noir or Canadiana desert rock: Toronto’s Abigail Lapell sings haunting, gorgeous modern folk songs. Lapell brings her live show to the Jazz Cafe on 14 May, performing vocals, piano, harmonica and finger style guitar. Joining her on stage is up-and-coming Canadian folk singer-songwriter Steph Cameron, presenting her new album Blood Moon, set to release in April 2025.
American folk artist Sam Amidon is performing his new release - and first on Rough Trade Records’ sister label River Lea Records - Salt River, at Stone Nest. The original date of 22 May SOLD OUT so a second show has been added on 21 May. On his new record, the Vermont native, who is now based in London, collaborated with saxophonist and producer Sam Gendel to reinterpret and regenerate ten songs that he has gathered together as part of a decades-long quest to recontextualise what it means to sing folk songs or make folk music.
Known for her carefree live performances and to the point lyrics, Summer Pearl sold out her headline show at the EFG London Jazz Festival at The Lower Third and also supported Philadelphia Hip Hop Legends; Digable Planets at Koko as part of the festival. She returns for a London headline show at Neon 194 on 22 May.
Praised by the Irish Times as a musician with an “insatiable appetite for adventure”, Irish fiddler Martin Hayes is announcing a UK tour in later this year with his trio completed by Brian Donnellan (bouzouki and concertina) and Conal O’ Kane (guitar), including two shows at London’s Stone Nest on 29 May.
Looking beyond the Spring, there are already a host of fantastic shows on-sale including Nashville guitarist William Tyler at the ICA on 4 June and virtuoso pianist Tigran Hamasyan at the Barbican on 16 June. The most streamed classical artist in the world, Ludovico Einaudi, has Sold Out 5 consecutive nights at the Royal Albert Hall from 30 June - 4 July ahead of further UK tour dates. Blending Kora with folk, Ballaké Sissoko & Piers Faccini will perform at the Union Chapel on 18 September in support of their new album Our Calling. On 19 October, Merope bring their contemporary vision of ancient Baltic music to Cafe Oto, tangling elements gleaned from jazz, traditional, ambient music, 20th century minimalism and kosmische.
