Legendary soul singer Stevie Wonder drops by Ronnie Scott’s to jam with UK talent

Back in London after closing the last of the summer festivals, Bestival, legendary soul singer Stevie Wonder last night popped into the iconic Soho club, Ronnie Scott’s to take part in their cool late night hang, The Late Late Show.  Arriving shortly after midnight and leaving in the wee hours he jammed with the band and posed for pictures with the staff.  Attracting a packed house most nights, the Late Late Show takes place after the main act, and is where a crowd of ?in the know’ Londoners come to watch some of the UK’s finest jazz talents take to the stage for a late night blowing session.

Sitting in with pianist Mike Gorman’s band, Stevie Wonder jammed along on his harmonica, before taking to the piano to perform The Masquerade is Over.  Needless to say Gorman was blown away by the appearance of one of contemporary music’s true greats and bassist Dave Whitford commented “We’re playing a blues and all of a sudden this harmonica starts playing. ?Hold on’ I thought,  ?I recognise that sound’. Shit he’s sitting in his seat playing through a radio mic. HOLY SHIT. Then he gets on the piano and plays. Humbled to say the least. One of the true musical greats. Amazing night”

Stevie joins a list of other big names who have dropped by while in town - Wynton Marsalis, Macy Gray, Freddy Cole, Joss Stone, the Michael Bubl? Big Band and even the entire Beyonc? band, to name just a few.

?We haven’t had anything like this in New York for over twenty years”.Jazz legend Wynton Marsalis
