This popular and succesful Shropshire venue has been awarded a Jazz Services grant for the development of its enterprising "Jazz Notes" programme.

We have received the following press release relating to the awarding of this grant;

Edge Arts Centre’s jazz programme success

Much Wenlock’s innovative arts centre, The Edge, has been recognised with a grant by Jazz Services with the Performing Rights Society. The grant is for The Edge’s prestigious programme of jazz performances which have earned the centre a national reputation, and which attract the cream of British and international musicians.

In awarding The Edge a grant for £1920, Chris Hodgkins, the Director of Jazz Services said: ?We are very impressed by The Edge’s diverse and interesting programme and ethos, and the award is to encourage this further.?

The Edge began developing its jazz programme with a grant from the Arts Council, and in recent years has presented concerts by such stars as Tord Gustavsen, Ralph Towner and Tomasz Stanko. The current programme boasts performances by New York jazz legend and grammy nominee Fred Hersch on October 7th; British singer Christine Tobin on October 20th and US/UK supergroup The Impossible Gentlemen, featuring Steve Swallow who has toured recently with Pat Metheny, on December 2nd.

Arts Centre Director, Alison Vermee, said: ?This award is a great boost to our jazz programme at a time when other sources of funding are under threat. It’s a great privilege to be able to bring internationally-known players to rural Shropshire. One of the biggest attractions for them is The Edge’s enthusiastic and loyal audience.?
