To that end, the fund was set up to support promising creatives through the pandemic. Below are the January 2021 award winners – all of whom you can support on The Floor.
Marcus Joseph - Since the release of his first E.P ‘Real Talk’ his career as a musician and a spoken word artist has gone from strength to strength. Marcus performed alongside internationally renowned vocalists Emily Saunders and Angie Brown at the London Jazz Festival (2018). Marcus recently signed to Jazz refreshed and has just released Beyond The Dome (out 12/02/21) his debut album. Chiedu Oraka – The self-titled ‘Black Yorkshireman’ grew up on the toughest estate in Hull. He describes his music as the new sound of working class Northern-England. His freestyle “Helly Hansen 3’ premiered on Radio 1 and was added to the Grime Shutdown playlist and his single Darcy has had over 2.5 million streams. Rochelle Creative – is a creative studio that specialises in minimalist abstract design, oil paintings and illustration. Rooted in the free expression of Women of Colour, nature and self-care. Rochelle Creative is dedicated to promoting the healing and uplifting WOC; by promoting powerful positive imagery, of those who are under-represented in the creative industries. DEMIGOSH – uses music and performance to explore ancestral realms and envision the future. Audiences at a DEMIGOSH show can expect post-apocalyptic vibrations, drawing from afro beat, hip hop, jazz and pop, topped with airy and lusty vocals.
