March Highlights - part 1
Hello music lovers!
March is here, the sun is out, and our lineup of incredible live music continues! Whether you’re craving soul-stirring folk, foot-stomping rock ‘n’ roll, or something beautifully unexpected, we’ve got just the thing…
UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…
March is the month of St Patrick’s Day, and to get in the mood, we have a selection of Irish delights this month! Kicking things off is the return of Irish folk-rock twin duo THE OCELOTS (6th March) with their signature harmonies and storytelling. Touring in support of their brand new album ‘Everything, When Said Slowly’, which has been getting rave reviews (“Steeped in classic singer-songwriter Americana, invoking everyone from vintage Neil Young to Sufjan Stevens.” UNCUT), they were recently included in NPR’s Best New Music Playlist. Only a handful of tickets left for this one so grab them quick!
As we move further into March, NICK KELLY & SEÁN MILLAR - two of Ireland’s most revered singer-songwriters - join forces for a special afternoon of poetic, heartfelt music (15th March). Millar has been called “an Irish National treasure, the Poet Laureate of Dublin’s dark side” by The Irish Times and “Ireland’s greatest lyricist” by the RTE Guide, and Kelly has been described as “the most visual songwriter Ireland has ever produced” by Hot Press - this promises to be a special collaboration!
And that’s not all! On St Paddy’s Day itself we are very excited to be presenting Franco-Irish band THE CELTIC SOCIAL CLUB, this year celebrating their 10th Anniversary Tour. Propelling traditional Celtic music (Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, Asturia) by mixing it with rock, pop, folk and groove, if The Pogues and The Clash have often been cited in an attempt to summarize this energetic and ambitious musical “mash-up”, the 7-piece band has little by little found its marks and its stability, to the point of making references and comparisons obsolete today. This band have come highly to us and we can’t wait to see them live!
March also sees the very welcome return of stunning Fado singer CLAUDIA AURORA (14th March), one of the few artists outside Portugal to have made a truly significant mark on this revered genre. And Leeds-based HOWLIN’ RIC & THE ROCKETEERS are back (16th March) with their high-energy mix of rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm & blues - wailing vocals, virtuosic sax and biting, grooving guitar will have you bouncing, swinging and sweating from start to finish! Other upcoming highlights include a treat for Blues fans with a rare London show from Memphis Bluesman JOHNNY BURGIN (5th March); Old-Time Appalachian Folk and Bluegrass from THE RAGGED OUT STRING BAND (7th March); and a special matinée show from THE BROTHERS GILLESPIE (8th March) - “Not since the minimal chamber folk of Simon And Garfunkel has two voices and an acoustic guitar sounded so absolutely perfect.” FATEA… Should be a special afternoon!
This is just a selection of the many incredible artists who will be gracing our stage in the coming weeks, so please do check out our EVENTS PAGE for the full listings. And please note that many of our shows sell out in advance, so we highly recommend grabbing your tickets early to avoid disappointment!
And if you don’t have plans for tonight, why not check out folk trio TAMESAS who play folk songs and tunes from all over the UK and beyond, creating quirky arrangements with strong vocal harmonies and funky rhythms.
We hope to see you soon!
Lots of love,
Immy & Risa xx
