The Green Note, Camden Town, London - Newsletter, 06/11/2024.

Wednesday, November 06, 2024

The Green Note has forwarded its latest newsletter with details of forthcoming musical events, including its programme for the 2024 London Jazz Festival.

Hello music lovers!

As we come into November, we look forward to the annual EFG London Jazz Festival which takes place this time every year. As usual we have a number of dates as part of this festival, featuring some of the hottest jazz talent, so make sure you check out our listings!

Over the next couple of weeks we have some great gigs, many of which are close to selling out, so make sure you don’t miss out on tickets!

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…

We’re really looking forward to welcoming back the insanely talented Nashville-based singer-songwriter SAM LEWIS who has been called “a modern Townes Van Zandt” (Tues 12th Nov). He’s often labeled with some form of the word ‘soulful’ (some have even compared his voice to molasses), Lewis’ style meets at a juncture of many different genres however he’s discovered what most musicians spend lifetimes working for; the place where feel-good music meets vital social commentary. We very much recommend checking him out!

Other upcoming highlights include… Galway-based, internationally-acclaimed singer-songwriter ULTAN CONLON, whose lyrics, melodies & mellifluent voice have resonated with Mary Coughlan, Eddi Reader, Gaby Moreno and Hollywood star John C Reilly (Sun 10th Nov), a double bill featuring two young rising stars of the folk/pop scene SAMUEL AUSTIN and KITTY NOBLE who will be making their Green Note debut (Thurs 14th Nov), and award-winning Canadian folk musician ALLISON LUPTON, who will be joined by Canadian and US Grand National fiddle champion SHANE COOK and CFMA Solo Instrumental Artist of the Year and Canadian Grand Master Step Dance champion KYLE WAYMOUTH for what promises to be a very special night (Weds 13th Nov).

GREEN NOTE HITS THE ROAD…

We have some great shows also coming up at our homes away from home this month.

BOO HEWERDINE & HEIDI TALBOT and DOM MARTIN are already sold out, so we’re just taking waiting lists for these in case of any returns.

However we still have tickets left for a much anticipated show we’re putting on at Water Rats on Mon 18th Nov - ANA SILVERA + ALAN HAMPTON. This is another personal recommendation from us - it’s going to be pretty special!
Alan Hampton is a bassist/composer/singer who’s toured, written, and recorded with several leading artists in a variety of genres, including extensive work with Andrew Bird and Rufus Wainwright as well as being featured on various soundtracks for film and TV.  “Alan Hampton is a songwriter who makes you reach for platitudes about ‘good music’ — how people don’t write adventurous or honest pop songs anymore, how it’s all archness and monotony now, how our harmony-starved ears have shrunk… He does that because he’s got loads of talent.” New York Times
Ana Silvera is an acclaimed English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose alt-folk tunes are lyrical, intimate and emotive, works of lavish, vivid imagination. Ana’s latest studio album ‘The Fabulist’ was recorded with award-winning producer Gerry Diver and described as “riveting” (Bandcamp Editorial) and “extraordinary” (Folk Radio UK). More recently, she has been exploring the Ladino (Spanish-Jewish) music tradition of her roots, performing these songs alongside original work.
“Stunning…magical story-telling” The Guardian
This one is not to be missed!

We also still have a handful of tickets for multi-award winning Scottish folkie KRIS DREVER at Heath St Baptist Church (Hampstead) next Friday (15th November). As well as creating award-winning original songs and instrumental pieces with the trio Lau, he has had a fruitful solo career exploring the cracks between classic and modern songwriting and the traditional music that he comes from. This should be a special night!

RECENTLY ANNOUNCED…

We’ve also recently announced a ton of great shows for the coming months so do keep an eye on our listings. Some of these include Nashville songstress JENN BOSTIC, highly acclaimed Canadian artist RUTH MOODY, “Canada’s Own Queen of Americana” LYNNE HANSON, “Articulate, compelling … brilliant” (Mojo) local artist SEAN TAYLOR, traditional country artist from Oxfordshire AGS CONNOLLY, and British Blues artist MELISSA JAMES.

So much more than we can mention here, so do check out our listings for the full line up!

We hope to see you soon!
Lots of love,
Immy & Risa xx
