The Green Note has forwarded its latest newsletter with details of forthcoming musical events.

October Highlights - part 1

Hello music lovers!

The weather has definitely turned now, but we’re keeping warm with some really hot acts coming up this month!

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS…

This Wednesday (2nd Oct), we welcome singer-songwriter and fingerpicker extraordinaire DOM GLYNN for his full band Green Note debut. Dom has developed a reputation as an impressive live performer. He combines a style of songwriting influenced by Bob Dylan and Hank Williams Sr., with a guitar style inspired by Mississippi John Hurt and Doc Watson. His full band shows have been described as ‘British Honky-Tonk’. Sharing the bill with him is Welsh singer-songwriter WILLIAM POYER. Inspired by the music of Ray LaMontagne, Chris Stapleton and Jason Isbell, Poyer’s songwriting hits that sweet spot between emotional and anthemic, as he jacks up his intimate and introspective folk with giant melodic hooks and soaring vocals.

This Sunday we have a very special double bill featuring old-school country crooner JON BYRD and “Queen of the East Nashville Underground”, AMELIA WHITE. Born in Alabama, moving to Georgia and then settling in Nashville, Jon Byrd’s got the Southern accent, the hat, and the music chops that thrill audiences around the world – a honky tonk show thousands of miles East of Tennessee. Amelia has received rave reviews from critics on both sides of the pond from Rolling Stone and NPR to Sir Bob Harris OBE and Ralph McLean of BBC. For Americana fans, this is a night not to be missed!

We’re also looking forward to welcoming back recipient of the 2024 Spirit of Folk Award, 2023 Canadian Folk Music Award for Indigenous Songwriter of the Year and the 2023 Capital Music Awards’ Album of the Year, AMANDA RHEAUME. In a genre characterized by anthems of underdogs, assumptions and unfair advantages, Rheaume’s sound and story radically expand the boundaries, both geographic and cultural, to make space for new perspectives on resistance and resilience. A Citizen of the Métis Nation, and an active and proud member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, Rheaume’s music is indeed from the heart, and the land.

Other upcoming highlights include a night of songs, stories and masterful guitar playing from BROOKS WILLIAMS and VERA VAN HEERINGEN where audiences will be treated to duets as well as solos in this variation of the “songwriter in the round” sessions made famous in Nashville in the early years of Folk/Americana
(Tues 1st Oct)... mandolin, fiddle, guitar, harmony vocals, bluegrass, old-time, swing, and much, much more from virtuosic duo RAIN OF ANIMALS (Fri 4th Oct)... a soulful mix of folk rock, with powerful vocals and haunting melodies from up-and-coming Kent-based singer-songwriter SORREL NATION (Sun 13th Oct)... talented singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist and former Oysterband member RAY COOPER (Thurs 10th Oct), a dreamfolk trio from Bristol with stunning harmonies HANDS OF THE HERON (Weds 16th Oct), and award-winning Canadian folk/pop singer/songwriter MO KENNEY (Weds 9th Oct).

GREEN NOTE HITS THE ROAD…

We also have some fantastic shows coming up a bit later this month at our homes away from home, including multiple Grammy-nominated Americana & Blues artist GUY DAVIS, the launch of British folk artist HANNAH SCOTT’s new album (“She reduces women and children to tears – in a good way…” The Guardian), Boogie and Blues piano phenom HENRI HERBERT, and interdiscliplinary collective JAWARI, who will be celebrating the launch of their new album Rasa Road.

We’ve also started adding some of next year’s shows to the website including one of Scotland’s most popular artists, EDDI READER, so check out our listings and start planning ahead!

Hope to see you soon!
Lots of love,
Immy & Risa xx
