Jazz on 3's Jez Nelson and Kevin Le Gendre discussed issues raised by The Jazzmann regarding the recent London performances by New York based quartet Mostly Other People Do The Killing.

The August 29th edition of Jazz on 3, introduced by Jez Nelson, included a reference to the Jazzmann site. The main focus of the programme was the transmission of a concert by the New York based self styled “bebop terrorist band” Mostly Other People Do The Killing recorded at The Vortex in London on July 13th 2011. The band played two nights at the London venue with Ian attending and subsequently reviewing the following evening. One of the points raised in Ian’s review (basically are MOPDTK too clever for their own good?) was picked up by Jez Nelson who discussed it with his studio guest jazz journalist Kevin Le Gendre. Le Gendre agreed that Ian’s remarks were “fair comment”.
It was good to hear the site being acknowledged on national radio, and if you can’t blow your own trumpet on a jazz website then where can you?

The programme also advertised Norwegian saxophonist Marius Neset’s forthcoming performance at The Edge Arts Centre, Much Wenlock, Shropshire on Saturday September 3rd 2011. Ian will be attending and reviewing the show and would urge any body reading this to come along as well if you can. Neset’s album “Golden Xplosion” has attracted rave reviews and this should be a show not to be missed. Promoter Alison Vermee would love it to take place in front of a full house so please give this enterprising venue your support.
