Eyes Shut Tight reach the finals of the European Jazz Contest.

Yorkshire based piano trio Eyes Shut Tight are to perform in the finals of the European Jazz Contest in Rome on July 18th 2011.

Paul Baxter, bassist and leader of Eyes Shut Tight has forwarded us the following press release regarding his band’s appearance at this prestigious event;

Yorkshire jazz trio win place at The 2011 European Jazz Contest, Rome, Italy

On the success of their self released debut album ‘Evolution’, Yorkshire based jazz musician Paul Baxter’s trio ?Eyes Shut Tight’ have been invited to perform in the final of the prestigious European Jazz Contest to be held in Rome, Italy on 18 July 2011.

The trio have been performing countrywide at jazz clubs and renowned venues including Wakefield Jazz, The National Centre For Early Music and The Spin Off to mention but a few.

All the music has been composed by Paul, who is currently commuting to London from Wakefield to undertake a Masters in Jazz Performance at Trinity College of Music.  He is studying with top jazz artists such as Steve Watts, Julian Siegel, and Martin Speake.

Paul has been an active member of the Yorkshire Jazz Scene for 12yrs now, and he continues to perform throughout the region with various outfits such as ‘5 Pieces Of Silver’, which works with the acclaimed saxophonist Alan Barnes. Working at many of the local Jam Sessions/Clubs, including Pave in Hull, The Black Swan in York and Santiago’s in Leeds.  Paul also ran the York Jazz Club for 4yrs, performing with great artists such as Pete King, Mark Nightingale, Steve Waterman, Jim Mullen, Bruce Adams.

‘Eyes Shut Tight’ is Paul’s latest creative outlet working with Leeds College of Music graduates Johnny Tomlinson on Piano and Hull’s very own Kris Wright on Drums:
